Selling meals and smart refrigerators to schools, offices, shops and airports has dried up. What’s left are the hospitals—and a scramble to enter the direct-to-consumer business. Luckily, Luke Saunders, founder of Farmer’s Fridge, was able to pivot his company efficiently and had a quick return after an immediate 80% loss in business during the first weeks of the pandemic. The company’s switch to a d-to-c model enabled Saunders to hire back the three employees he was initially forced to let go.
