The postponement of the Olympics is expected to add $2.7 billion to the cost of the Games for the host country. The cost estimate from December, when Tokyo Olympic organizers increased the figure to $12.6 billion. When Tokyo was awarded the Olympics in 2013, the bid committee projected total costs would be $7.3 billion.
